PARKERSBURG — The streets and roads of the Mid-Ohio Valley were full of snow and ice Monday following a major winter storm which dumped several inches of snow Sunday evening and early Monday.

Wood County Administrator Marty Seufer announced Monday evening that county offices will be closed today.

While Monday was a holiday, the snowfall also caused many schools in the area to close today.

However, the snow stopped falling Monday afternoon and road crews were getting caught up on their snow removal. But in some places, they still had a ways to go.

Ashley Rittenhouse, the public information officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Marietta, said roads were expected to be done by Monday night. She said that crews came into work on Sunday and continued working overnight and into Monday.

Rittenhouse also offered advice for drivers, “People should stay home if they can. Just be careful when you go out.”

Spencer Mayor Terry Williams said they were catching up, but ice will be an issue for another two to three days.

He said he was very thankful about the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday for allowing his crews to get caught up.

“It was a good day. A holiday. That helps,” Williams said.

According to the Washington County website, the county was still under a Level 2 snow emergency on Monday after Sheriff Larry Mincks posted it on Sunday.
