WHEELING –The upward trend in new COVID-19 cases continued over the past week in Ohio County, with the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reporting Sunday 861 new cases since Jan. 9. The health department announced Sunday it would, beginning this week, limit its vaccination clinic schedule to focus on homebound vaccinations and other “general work of the department.”
The health department did not release a weekly figure for new cases among Ohio County children on Sunday. It reported 111 such cases on Jan. 9, more than triple the amount reported the week before Christmas. There will be no walk-in vaccination clinic at The Highlands today due to the Martin Luther King. Jr. Day holiday. The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with no clinic on Thursday.
The past week’s tally is up from 701 cases reported on Jan. 9, and represents a more-than-fourfold increase from the 212 cases reported the week prior to Christmas. On a more positive note, the health department reported no new COVID-related deaths over the past week.
West Virginia’s color-coded COVID-19 alert map was unavailable on the state dashboard Sunday due to technical issues. The Marshall Counth Health Department has reported 296 confirmed and 160 probable cases of COVID-19 over the past week, with one new COVID-related death.
