All-Ohio Red boasts several of state’s top 2024 prospects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Over the years, the All-Ohio Red travel basketball program has sent dozens of players on to the college basketball ranks including many alums to Ohio State.

The list of recent Buckeyes who played for the Nike-sponsored and Columbus-based program includes Jon Diebler, Jared Sullinger, Aaron Craft, Marc Loving, JaeSean Tate, Kaleb and Andre Wesson and others.

All-Ohio notables who went elsewhere include Trey Burke (Michigan), MaCio Teague (national champion this season at Baylor), Nick Ward (Michigan State), Adreian Payne (Michigan State) and others.

The program is already off to a strong start this spring. The 17-U team, led by Gahanna point guard Sean Jones, is 12-4 through four weekends. It was noted in this feature on Columbus Africentric 2023 wing Dailyn Swain that the 16-U team is 16-0 on the young season. That team also features Huber Heights Wayne point guard Lawrent Rice and Beckley (W.Va.) Prep forward James Okonkwo.

And the 15-U team has also been impressive with a 16-0 record, including a 4-0 record at the NY2LA Grassroots Invitational last weekend in Louisville. All three of these teams will be in action this weekend at the Bill Hensley Run ‘N Slam tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind.

It should be noted that All-Ohio has not cornered the market on all of the top underclassman talent in the Buckeye state. Cincinnati Taft 2023 guard Rayvon Griffith has been playing with the Bates Fundamentals program out of Michigan. Wing Marlon Barnes, a Cleveland-area native now at Ypsi Prep in Michigan, is also with the Bates 16-U team.

The All-Ohio 15-U team does boast a number of the state’s current rising sophomores (Class of 2024 prospects), however.

Included in that group are:

* Cincinnati Walnut Hills forward Tyler McKinley (6-8);

* Worthington Christian forward Sam Johnson (6-6);

* Dayton Chaminade-Julienne guard Jonathan Powell (6-4);

* Preble Shawnee wing Mason Shrout (6-4);

* Independence guard Ace Buckner (6-1), who is the son of Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Greg Buckner;

* Columbus KIPP guard Dom Aekins (5-7);

* Canal Winchester guard Cortez Freeman (6-1);

* Cleveland St. Ignatius guard Calvin Little (6-2);

* Columbus Walnut Ridge guard Na’Varion Adams (6-4); and

* Chillicothe Unioto forward Tayvion Galloway (6-6).

Check out photos of many of these players below. Also check out social media posts and videos surrounding this team in the early portion of the travel season.
