A longtime congressman from Ohio is giving us his seat next year and setting his sights on the U.S. Senate.

Democrat Tim Ryan says his blue-collar, pragmatic background makes him a great choice to fill Sen. Rob Portman’s seat.

With nearly two decades of experience in Washington, he believes his background can push him into the Senate which could tip the balance.

“I was rated in the last Congress as one of the most bipartisan members, and I prefer to work with Republicans. I think that’s when you get good legislation,” Ryan said.

Ryan says his focus in the Senate will be the same, getting Republicans to vote on what the American people seem to want.

He went on to add, “I would really like the Republicans to be more helpful and try to come together to cut workers in on a deal.”

When it comes to more controversial issues like President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan, Ryan says it’s important to think of it as much more than roads and bridges.

“Taking care of human beings that are in these jobs that they can’t make a living wage at, how can we keep going as a country where 10% of people control everything,” Ryan said.

On proposals to expand the Supreme Court, Ryan said he will reserve judgment until the Biden administration releases its study on the impact.
