SLAVIC SCHOLARSHIPS: Simply Slavic is seeking applicants for its 2022 round of academic scholarships for students attending Youngstown State University. YSU students who have completed their freshman year and are enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level are encouraged to apply.

All applicants must submit a 500-word narrative on how Slavic culture has influenced their lives. Funds can be used for tuition and student expenses such as books, lodging and study abroad programs. The scholarship is supported through a partnership with Warren’s Modern Methods Brewing Co.

The Simply Slavic scholarship committee panel will select the winners after reviewing their essays and academic achievements.The deadline for scholarship applicants is July 31. The winners will be announced in early August.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: The Ohio Education Association Educational Foundation has made a donation of $5,000 to the Anthony V. Spano Foundation’s School Supplies Fund. This donation helps make it possible for the Spano Foundation to continue its School Supplies Fund for the upcoming school year.

The fund was established to help the primary and secondary school teachers purchase much-needed classroom supplies for underprivileged students, which will in turn help further their educations.

In 2021, in addition to the OEAAEF donation, the Spano Foundation also received an anonymous donation that enabled it to give to 15 school districts and nearly $27,000 in school supplies were delivered.

The fund was created to help bridge the gap for schools and teachers who no longer have the dollars due to cutbacks from the state. For more information on this Fund, visit SpanoFoundation.com.
