Panther Pitchers Earn All-GMAC Honors

INDIANAPOLIS — A pair of pitchers for Ohio Dominican baseball received All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference honors, with the league’s annual awards announcement on Sunday, May 15. 

Sophomores Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio) and Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) were named to the second and third teams for the G-MAC, respectively. Since joining the conference prior to the 2018 season, ODU now has 26 all-conference selections, with both Bolander and Rouse earning their second all-GMAC honor.

Bolander led the team in 2022 with a 1.86 earned run average. The sophomore made 15 appearances, all in relief, recording 19.1 innings of work. Bolander matched his save total from his freshman campaign in 2021 with six saves. He allowed only four earned runs this spring and struck out 20 batters. 

Rouse, for the second straight season, was ODU’s weekend series opening game starter. The sophomore made 14 total appearances, including 12 starts, with a 4.06 ERA. Rouse finished with a 3-6 overall record, while also adding one save. The right-hander posted five-plus strikeouts in 10 outings, while his 79 season punchouts ranked top eight in the G-MAC. 

The Panthers concluded thed 2022 season 23-27 overall and 14-18 in the G-MAC. Despite missing the G-MAC Tournament, falling one spot shy in the final standings, ODU finished the 2022 campaign strong, winning eight of its final 10 games played, including 3-1 series results against Malone and Findlay. The Black & Gold also went 2-2 against both Walsh and Ashland, the G-MAC Tournament finalists.
