Cincinnati high schools reschedule for Bengals-Titans NFL playoff game
WEST CHESTER – At least two schools in the area have decided to move their scheduled games from Saturday to Sunday to accommodate players and fans who want to watch the Cincinnati Bengals playoff game against the Tennessee Titans.
Scott Kaufman, athletic director at Lakota West and Springboro athletic director Austin Rhoads agreed to move their boys’ basketball tripleheader to the next day. Part of it was for all to enjoy the Bengals advancing in the playoffs for the first time in 31 years, plus it made financial sense.
“Last Saturday we had a rescheduled tripleheader with Colerain, 4:30, 6 and 7:30,” Kaufman said. “Obviously the Bengals (vs. Raiders) were at 4:30. For the tripleheader, we sold 79 tickets.”
Kaufman understands it’s a really exciting time for the city and recalls his last playoff game, the infamous Bengals/Chargers Freezer Bowl.
“When you see the excitement in the city and see how our crowd was last week, I think it makes perfect sense,” Kaufman said. “We’ve played on Sundays before and there’s tournament games on Sunday. I think the majority of the people want to be able to do both. This lets them be able to both.”
Kaufman is unaware of what other schools may do and says it wouldn’t have played into his decision. Thus far, he’s had no complaints.
