Folly Beach Democrat to deliver party message after governor’s state of state address |

Democratic state Rep. Spencer Wetmore of Folly Beach will deliver the party’s response to Republican Gov. Henry McMaster’s State of the State address Jan. 19.

“Our policies under the governor’s leadership have relied too much on fear and division,” she said in a media statement from House Democrats. “It’s time we take action for the working families of South Carolina instead of paying lip service to extremist politics. I am looking forward to outlining a different vision for South Carolina on Wednesday night.”

Wetmore was first elected to the House District 115 seat in an August 2020 special election, flipping it from GOP control after Peter McCoy left to become U.S. attorney for South Carolina.

The district covers parts of James Island and Folly Beach.

The governor will appear on SCETV beginning at 7 p.m. to deliver his annual statement. Wetmore will speak live directly following McMaster’s address.

Wetmore, an attorney, previously served as Folly Beach city administrator and as a prosecutor for the Charleston County Solicitor’s Office.
